ChatGPT Pro Limits Doubled—With an Important Pro 200 Detail

Understand Tibo's October 29 update: more Work and Codex usage, the canceled Pro 200 reduction, and why chat message limits need a separate look.

The patch is half finished, the tests still need to run, and the usage meter says it is time to stop. At that point, more allowance can feel rather more useful than another feature.

In his October 29, 2026 Day 25 post, Tibo announced higher usage limits for Pro and Business Premium. OpenAI's accompanying update confirms the important distinction: Pro 100 and Pro 500 get twice their previous Work and Codex allowance. For Pro 200, the change depends on which allowance the account already had. See Tibo's post and OpenAI's October 29 release note.

Check the plan—and the starting point

The easy detail to miss in a “limits doubled” headline is that an existing Pro 200 account does not necessarily get twice what it had yesterday.

Plan or previous allowanceWork / Codex change
Pro 100Twice the previous allowance
Pro 500Twice the previous allowance
Pro 200, previously lower allowanceDoubled to match the higher allowance
Pro 200, already on the higher allowanceKept unchanged; the planned reduction is canceled

For existing Pro 200 users, continuity matters

If you already had the higher allowance, an unchanged meter does not necessarily mean you missed the update. Your planned reduction has been withdrawn. Existing subscriptions receive applicable changes automatically, without waiting for renewal or canceling and subscribing again. OpenAI's Pro plan guide.

There is a practical reason to care about that. Once an agent becomes part of your routine, you arrange other work around it. It handles repetitive edits while you review requirements; it runs checks while you prepare the next task. A smaller allowance can disrupt that arrangement well beyond the moment a warning appears.

Keeping a familiar workflow viable is useful in its own right. For an established user, being able to plan next week's work may matter more than seeing a bigger number on an update card.

Work allowance and chat messages are different limits

OpenAI says the weekly GPT-6 Pro message limit in Chat stays unchanged for Pro 100 and Pro 500. Pro 200's lower message limit rises to match its higher one; accounts already on the higher limit keep it. Plus usage is unchanged. Pro usage and limits.

That distinction matters when checking your account. A conversation, a Work task and a coding job may all feel like asking AI for help, but one percentage readout cannot tell you that every feature has received the same increase.

Leave more room for the checks you usually skip

For coding, a useful experiment is to spend the extra room on finishing the job properly. After a fix, inspect nearby call sites, add a regression case and review the diff. That gives you something concrete to evaluate, beyond how many conversations you managed to open.

The same idea applies to documents. Give a draft a separate pass for numbers, references and internal consistency, then another for readability. Extra capacity can help you polish an output before you rush to fill the schedule with more tasks.

Actual consumption still depends on the model, context, reasoning, tools and speed mode, among other factors listed in the official Work and Codex usage guide.

Our suggestion is to keep a small set of familiar tasks and run them with consistent settings. Record what was completed, what needed rework and how much allowance was used. A useful result is “this job now fits into my working day,” rather than an assumed doubling of productivity.

Let your workload decide whether to upgrade

If limits have repeatedly interrupted your work, spend some time with the updated allowance before making another plan change. See whether those interruptions become less frequent and whether checks you used to postpone can now be finished the same day.

If your current allowance already covers what you do, there is little reason to upgrade on the headline alone. Take one task through drafting, checking and your own review. The best use of more capacity may be the finishing work you already knew you should do, but kept leaving for later.
